Sheds For You – Finding The Right Shed For You
It seems that most of us accumulate a lot
more stuff than we have room. This causes a dilemma. Where do we put all
of that stuff? The rental storage places are growing like wild fire.
Some even have a move in special, where you get up to six months free if
you pay for an equal number of months up front. The problem with this is
you end up paying for your storage forever. If you’re like me, you
probably should have gone through that stuff before putting it into
storage. You end up storing things that aren’t even important; and on
top of that, you pay someone else to store it.
A good alternative to a
storage container
rental, is to own your own storage shed. This may cost a little more on
the front end, but once you pay for it, you own it. There isn’t any
monthly rental fee. If you have plenty of room in your yard, this can be
an ideal option. The key is finding the best storage shed for
you and your particular needs. Now, when deciding on a shed, there are several options
to consider as well. Should you buy a shed kit that you can put together
yourself; or maybe buy a storage shed that is already assembled? There
are plastic storage sheds,
metal garden sheds, and vinyl sheds. You can
even buy a nice wooden storage shed, but you will end up paying quite a
bit more. The advantage of getting a
wooden
storage shed is that it will
normally hold up better than a plastic or metal one. You still need to
be concerned with the wood deteriorating, but if you treat the lumber
properly, you can get a lot of years out of the shed.
Now, there’s still another option. You could build your own wooden storage shed. If you don’t know which end of the hammer to hold, you may want to stay away from this option, but if you can follow a good set of plans, and have a few basic skills, you can easily build your own shed. I wouldn’t recommend doing so without getting your hands on a good set of plans. When locating a set of shed plans, it isn’t advisable to go with free shed plans because they are so limited in what they offer.

Let me tell you where I get most of my woodworking plans. I ran across a wonderful source of shed plans. Ted's Woodworking is an excellent place, not only for shed plans, but for hundreds of other projects around the home. In fact Ted's had over 16,000 woodworking plans for a very reasonable price. By paying for a professional set of plans, the money you invest will be money well spent. You will end up with a best shed for you.
When deciding on what shed is best for
you, first decide where you have room for a shed. Make sure the ground
is somewhat level and not low lying, where water may tend to stand. You
want the shed foundation to sit up off the ground to protect the floor
from getting wet. You can poor a cement foundation if you like, but
again, make sure the shed sits higher than areas that collect water.
Now, you will want to decide what all
will be stored in your shed. This may determine what kind of shed you
want to purchase or build. It is a good idea for most items stored to
have some kind of pitched roof. A flat roof is more susceptible to
leaks. If you live where you get snow, a flat roof may also collapse
under the weight of snow if it accumulates on the top of the shed.
Next, you will want to decide what size
of storage shed you need. How much stuff do you need to store? The last
thing you want is to end up with too small of a storage shed for what
goods you need to store. It is a good idea to calculate what you think
you will need, and then get a shed that is another 20% to 30% larger.
Once you decide the size of shed you
need, start looking. You will be able to find the best shed for you.
Again, if you have the ability to build a shed, you will end up with a
lot better structure than you will get with a purchased one. If you
build your wooden storage shed, you will also save a lot of money over
buying a prebuilt shed. This site is designed to help you find
the right shed for you.
